The golden Krugerrand 1 troy ounce gold has a fineness of .9167 and is the most famous investment coin worldwide. First minted by the South African Mint Company in 1967 it is recognised as a legal means of payment but is never used as such.
The design of the golden Krugerrand
On the obverse is depicted a image of Paul Kruger. Paul Kruger gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the South African or Second Boer War (1899–1902).
